The advisory board plays a critical role within your project: determining policies, raising funds, overseeing financial management, representing your project in the community, and monitoring and evaluating project performance. Advisory board members work together to promote your project’s mission and vision. A minimum of three board members is required.
Please note: for fiscally sponsored projects, it is the Community Partners Board of Directors that is legally and financially liable, not the project's advisory board members.
Best practices for advisory board members include:
- Attend all meetings and actively participate in decision-making
- Actively assist in fundraising and resource development for your project, including setting/meeting "give and get" goals and volunteering for events or other donor cultivation activities
- Support the organization in your particular area of interest or expertise
- Allow your name, photograph and biography to be used in marketing, outreach and fundraising materials
- Actively participate in board development, equity and diversity efforts, on-boarding new members, and board and staff transitions
- Oversee the project's adherence to mission, program, and fiscal goals (including review of the budget)
