Tax Receipts
Community Partners will send tax receipts to donors who give $250 or more as required by the IRS. The email acknowledgment a donor receives for an online contribution is sufficient for tax purposes. For all donations amounts, projects should send a customized thank you letter.
Thank you letters
Projects are responsible for managing their donor relations. This includes sending thank you letters (by email or snail mail) to donors for any donation amount.
Below is an example of a standard donation thank you letter that can be customized to suit your project. Your thank you letters should, at minimum, include the following:
- Words of appreciation
- What the donation is going to be spent on
- Gift amounts
- Describe the impact
- How to stay connected
- Tax ID number and language explaining fiscal sponsorship included in each letter
For more tips and insight on what to include in specialized thank you letters, read the article on donor relations.
