Do staff and volunteers that provide counseling need to have insurance?

If a staff member is providing counseling as part of your project activities, your social service professional liability policy through Community Partners covers them. An additional charge will apply for this coverage, and it varies depending on the market rates and number of staff covered.

Volunteers

Community Partners strongly discourages volunteers from providing professional counseling services, supervision, or other related program oversight. If a project engages a volunteer to provide professional counseling services, supervision, or other related program oversight, the project leader should obtain a copy of the volunteer's individual professional liability insurance and their current professional license. Community Partners' social service professional liability coverage does not provide coverage for volunteers.
