Funders, particularly government agencies and private foundations, often award a grant for a specific purpose, such as to fund a particular program or part of a program, or to add a particular staff position to accomplish a certain task. Funds awarded under these conditions must be spent on the purposes and programs they were given for. However, if funds are received for general operating expenses, they can be used for any project expense.
Government contracts will be tracked by Community Partners' staff according to the approved budget.
If a foundation's grant is restricted, it is the project's responsibility to spend the grant funds on the purposes outlined in the grant application and contract. The project will be required to report back on restricted program and financial activity to the funder at the end of the grant period. Contact the financial services team if you need help setting up tracking systems.
