Yes, Community Partners can accept cash for the purposes of your project.
If you accept cash for your project, please make sure to deliver it in-person to Community Partners. Do not put cash in the mail. If you can't come in person, please purchase a money order or write a check in lieu of the cash and mail it to Community Partners. If the donation is greater than $250, Community Partners will automatically issue a tax receipt to the donor(s). Tax receipts for donations of less than $250 will be issued by request. Please make sure to include the name and address of the donor within the 'notes' section of the deposit form or attach a separate piece of paper with the information for tax receipt purposes.
Cash poses some unique problems and, if possible, should generally be avoided. Besides the potential for theft, there are also problems of accountability, identification of donors, potential appearances of mishandling, and simple miscounts. If you hold a special event where you are collecting cash at the door, or selling something for cash, you must be sure that adequate controls are in place to guard against these problems. Contact the financial services team to discuss the best way to accept cash.
